In this package of short films, all of which were featured on the 2024 Oscars Shortlist, we explore a range of modern social traumas from the mundane to the absurd. Whether it's the quintessentially 21st century matter of online presence and identity theft, or the perpetual struggles of displacement and mental health, these shorts depict the humanity behind acutely topical issues.

Join us afterwards for a Q&A with John Currie, Director of Beeston Film Festival, to talk about his upcoming Protest and Resistance film selection and the importance of short films to the film industry.

Invisible Border (2022)
When the Austrian police are assigned the task of evicting an Albanian family without a valid residence permit, the escalating ambush highlights the humanity of all involved.

A Kind of Testament (2023)
A young woman comes across animations on the Internet that have clearly been created from her private selfies. A stranger with the same name confesses to identity theft. But that doesn't answer to the question: "Why?"

Invincible (2022)
Inspired by a true story, Invincible recounts the last 48 hours in the life of Marc-Antoine Bernier, a 14-year-old boy on a desperate quest for freedom. It examines teenage struggles with mental health and the importance of community and family support.

Dog Apartment (2022)
An animated satire on how capitalist forces narrow the lives of aspiring artists, intersecting how predatory landlords, environmental decay and reliance on self-medication corrode the talent and dreams of the working class.
